Depot goes live this Friday, January 11!

OK folks, it’s official: The Content Enhancement Library will be formally retired this Friday evening and replaced with Depot.

What does this mean for you?

  1. On Friday evening I’ll be shutting down the old site, moving a snapshot of the data to the new site, and bringing Depot online. This process will take about an hour. People who go to the new site after that will be redirected to the new site.
  2. Depot has a whole new interface, reminiscent of the other Stratepedia sites. I’ve tried to address some of the shortcomings that made sharing items in the Content Enhancement Library challenging and think the new system will be much more intuitive.
  3. All user accounts, groups, and most data will migrate from the Content Enhancement Library to Depot. A few resources (less than ten, out of more than 1,700) did not make the cut because of minor glitches. From what I can tell these items were from people trying out the system and won’t be missed, but if you notice something important’s not where it should be, let me know.
  4. All users will need to reset their passwords. This is a one-time process and can be accomplished in under a minute. This is due to how we are now encrypting sensitive data on our server–the old way is not compatible with the new way. You may use the same password if you’d like, you just need to re-enter it.

What else is new?

Besides the new interface, here are the other biggies:

  • You can now easily access all the resources you’ve uploaded in one place, rather than hopping from group to group, using Depot’s Dashboard feature.
  • You can now share a Content Enhancement example with multiple groups without posting it multiple times. This is great for professional developers working with multiple groups.
  • You can now include multiple file formats (GIST, JPG, PDF, etc.) for an example, again without entering each as a separate resource in the database.
  • You can now create your own groups without contacting me. Groups can be public or private; moderation is optional.
  • You can now apply tags, or keywords, to your own resources, to make them easier to find.
  • More new features to come! The new system is much more flexible when it comes to new features, so I’m not as afraid to try new things. Let me know your feature requests!
