Last week the Consumer Electronic Show took place in Las Vegas and some pretty cool technology emerged. Here are a few things to check out this year:
1. 3D. Panasonic won the Best of CES award for their 3D Plasma TV. 3D was everywhere at CES this year and its going to be big in 2010. Just think Avatar.
2. E-Readers. The Kindle is going to get a little more competition this year. E-Readers are here to stay and companies are working to make products available to differing consumer demands. We are also seeing advancements in the type of screens available for E-Readers. Companies such as Mirasol are improving screen visibility in direct sunlight.
3. Tablets. While rumors continue to spread about a tablet from Apple, HP and Microsoft introduced their version, known as a slate. Check out this podcast to hear Harry McCracken’s, founder and chief blogger at Technologizer, take on the future of tablets.
4. Smartphones. Its no surprise cellphones are only going to get faster, sleeker, and used more as a personal computer then for phonecalls. Companies are talking bigger screens and faster processors. Looking to upgrade? You might be interested in the Nexus One or HD2. Also, check out this article on the ability to watch live TV on your iPhone.
5. 4G. Sprint released their new gadget, known as the Overdrive, stating that it “allows you to connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneously–including laptops, gaming devices, cameras and even smartphones from other carriers–through a single connection (via Wi-Fi), to a network that is up to 10 times faster than today’s 3G speeds from any national wireless carrier.”
